General Anesthesia - Instruction
Post-op Instructions:
- In most cases ,patient will be able to return home after becoming fully alert (usually takes approximately 1 hour after the procedure). There should be more than one adult accompanying the patient home so that the non-driver can care for the patient during the trip.
- Some common side effects:
- Nausea and Vomiting .This is common during the first 1-2 hours after the procedure. Avoid eating or thinking excessive amount of water or food during this period.
- Fever, small child may develop low fever from dehydration. In this case, frequent consumption of liquid is recommended along with fever relief medication.
- Sore throat. small sip of water is allowed after being awake. Soft diet is also recommended during the first day.
- Discomfort and Pain , If procedure includes several teeth removal or oral surgery procedure. Take pain relief medication as necessary.
- Keep the mouth clean by brushing with soft toothbrush after meal.
- Patients can go back to regular activity the next day.
Pre-op Instructions:
- Patient is to receive a complete physical examination (including lab work if indicated)within 7 days by the anesthesiologist or pediatrician prior to the appointment.
- If patient develops a cold, fever or any other reasons that would defer the appointment, please contact clinic immediately to consult the dentist. If it necessary to re-schedule, our staff will notify all doctors and personnel involved.
- 3. For patient safely, please strictly follow these instructions
- if patient is less than 4 years old, do not eat food or drink milk for 6 hours(4 hours for water) prior to the appointment.
- If patient is more than 4 years old , do not eat food or drink milk for 87 hours (6 hours for water) prior to the appointment.
